MCDONAGH-MAHALLATI ANA

I love the movement and freedom of dance. I chose to focus on this medium and all associated with it such as writing, watercolour paintings, and choreography. I chose dance because I love dancing and it is something that speaks to me. Dance lets me be who I am. Dance lets me be different and show everyone interesting things I can do. My work has progressed greatly throughout the years. Going into specifics, my tricks have gotten better, my technique in them and just the trick in general has had great improvement.

My technique and basics have also gotten stronger. My art has been inspired by the three artists I have studied for many years. Because I have been dancing for over ten years, I have been able to be inspired by these people for many of these techniques I practice. I chose Misty Copland, Maddie Ziegler, and Bayarma Parry. Misty Copeland has inspired me to work even harder especially in ballet. She has taught me that even though dance is hard, she had it harder, and I should be grateful for dance. I have watched Maddie Ziegler for the longest time, even though she started on “Dance Moms” I have watched her grow. She is an amazing acro, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and hip-hop dancer and I want to be just as diverse and amazing a dancer as her.  Lastly, Bayarma Parry. Even though she is not a dancer she is a circus artist which ties into dance. She is a hand balancer and contortionist and I also do those techniques in my acro solo. She inspires me to know that even if I am not the most flexible person I can still work hard and be amazing.

My biggest challenge has been facing my anxiety for performing in front of others. My biggest success has been my willingness to face my fear of performing for an audience. I have a fear of being judged by people, thinking they may not think I am good enough.

I hope viewers of my art will experience a thrill, and they will experience how hard, and moving dance is. I hope my viewers will experience that dance is not just ballet and it requires a lot of effort.
