LUCY LIN

I’ve tried many mediums such as watercolour, fine point markers, ink, paint, and colour pencils. My main medium is colour pencil since I’ve been working with them for many years, and every time I do so, using them gives me some new ideas. Right now, I’ve been working on human faces using a variety of mediums. Working on these makes me feel better. I really like things that are beautiful, and I like the freedom that was given to me, from those colours. In the past year, I’ve been trying to improve my skills, especially in painting and watercolour. Working more and more on them has improved my skills.
I’ve also been trying to be inspired by some artists that have a style that is very similar to mine. Tanya Shatseva is a young traditional artist that has done some amazing artwork. I have mainly been inspired by the feeling that her faces have given me. Deniz Altug is a painter and has her own website and shop. Her artworks are on canvas, and she’s inspired by nature and contemporary design. Her artwork has concepts such as the feeling of love, family, etc. Her colour can make the audience feel what she has experienced, throughout those colours. Kylee Turunen’s river on canvas gives out a calm feeling to her audience, and we can receive her thoughts through her work. I enjoy her paintings and the colour that she’s using.
My biggest challenge right now is to finish a piece using tempera paint. Tempera paint is a kind of paint that could be mixed with the layer that you’ve brushed on last time. One of my greatest successes this year is working with watercolour on canvas. It was a brand new thing to do, and it did succeed.
I hope that my audience can feel calm by looking through my pieces. I hope that my viewers can feel the strength of my colours. The calmness that drawing gives out is incredible. When I spend time sketching and drawing in my room, all my nerves tend to calm down. The giant flows of colour are like dreams, the mixing with each other is becoming magical. I've tried many mediums such as watercolour, needle pen, colour pencils, paint, and many others. Different mediums really allow me to express myself, and they give me different feelings, just like the feeling of Schrodinger's cat theory.
