NATALIE DOUGLAS

My work is based on my love for colours and photography. I chose the mediums of bodypainting, photography and drawing because they are all great ways to tell a story and describe my emotions through colour and design.

This year my art has progressed greatly. I have learned many new skills in class and through research that have inspired my work and helped improve it. Many projects have taught me new skills that I have used in this project such as how to balance out a photo or use more paint to sharpen an image.

Kirsty Mitchell inspired me to use nature in my pictures and use more natural colours like blue and green and inspired me to use natural elements like clouds and flowers. James Charles has influenced me to use bolder colours on the face, especially near the eyes. Jake Hicks’ work has helped me take an approach on using projectors in photos, to change the lighting, colour and texture of the photo, changing the overall tone of the image.

The biggest challenge in my project so far has been painting on someone while trying to keep them still or while they are talking and laughing. The biggest success this year were some of the pictures that we’ve taken while using a projector and colourful backgrounds. Another success has been how I have decided to focus on the eyes in my portrait photos because each person's eyes are unique and beautiful.

I hope the viewers of my art learn about a new style of photography using many props and projectors and I hope that they understand that makeup is a form of art which is more difficult than it seems.
