PICABO SO
My chosen subject is a tree’s stages throughout the four seasons. I chose to do this subject because to me it symbolizes the stages of life and the beauty of nature throughout time.
So far in my artwork I have used watercolor as one of my mediums. I also intend to use acrylic paint and paper installation as mediums. I chose watercolor because I wanted to challenge myself and learn how to do a new medium. I chose paper installation because I have always loved working with paper and making beautiful things with it. I chose acrylic paint because I am more comfortable with this medium and I wanted to make my biggest artwork of the year with this medium.
My work has improved a lot since last year, especially my sketching skills. For example last year I had to make a sketch of my shoe, I had lots of difficulties and I struggled a lot. This year I feel that I am more capable of sketching and I feel like I have improved, I now know more of the basics of sketching and I am continuing to progress.
Although many artists inspire me, four artists that have inspired me for this project are Thomas Darnell, Tiffanie Turner, Ellen Fuller and Ivan Shishkin. Thomas Darnell is a landscape and flower oil painting artist. His work has inspired me to do cherry blossoms on my tree on my art: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCCUg0KSOek. Tiffanie Turner is a paper installation artist who makes paper flower art. Her work has inspired me to make paper cherry blossoms: tiffanie turner. Ellen Fuller is an acrylic painter who paints realistic nature paintings. Her work has inspired me to make my tree bark very detailed: http://ellenfuller.com/wood/2016/11/4/wood-2. Finally, Ivan Shishkin is a Russian landscape painter. His work inspired me to paint realistic trees:
My biggest challenge so far was when I painted with watercolor as too much water shredded the paper and too much paint stained it. My greatest success in my work was my identity project as I worked really hard on it and my drawings were very precise.
When people see my art, I hope that they feel the passion that I put into my pieces of artwork. I also hope that they see the beauty of nature and the circle of life it represents.
