SELENA ZHANG

The mediums I choose are water-based oil paintings. I choose to use these mediums because they suit my idea the best which is landscapes (most of them are ocean and mountains). I decided to paint landscapes because I had read a book on landscapes and I suddenly got inspired by the pictures on there, the beauty of nature.

My work with art this year has been progressing very well, since I started my first piece on oil painting, I am more used to oil paintings because I had learned some skills on oil paints. This year, I also did some watercolor and colored pencils on whales and cats.

The artists I studied are Robert Wyland, Charles Vickery and Yael Maimon. These three artists had inspired me based on the styles of their painting, and the technical and skills used. They are all masters at drawing landscapes, they have a lot of creativity in their art.

The biggest challenge in art for me is that I just started painting with oils, so I cannot blend colours naturally yet, and sometimes the paintings don't go on the canvas the way I imagine. There is a lot of confusion happening, but gradually, I am figuring it out by doing more oil paintings. The greatest success is when I tried more oil paintings and I got used to painting in this medium. I learned a lot through it. I can blend the color on my canvas more naturally than before.

I hope viewers will experience what I feel about nature. I would like to tell the world or the viewers that nature gives us what we need, we should also explore nature, and feel nature.
