 XIN ZI ZHENG

I chose these mediums because I wanted to make pins for a fundraising effort but I had ended up making pins for the school (or house-themed pins) and I still enjoyed it. I wanted to do digital art too, because I’ve always wanted to make it with a reason. I was confused about what I wanted my third medium to be, but then I realized I could paint coins/pennies and make a whole set of them as my third medium.

This year, I found out about a few artists that I never knew about. I would say my biggest improvements have been in progressing to learn how to make artist statements and finding the who, what, where, why, when, how of art movements and artists.

My pin for fundraising was inspired by Austin Artist, he made pins to help fundraise for the Australian wildfires, I decided to do the same but instead, I did it for more than one cause because I remembered there is more than just wildfires. I was also inspired by another artist that goes by the name Eric Daigh who uses, not clip-on pins but normal pins, to make realistic art. Will Hanlon uses pins to make abstract designs, he layers the push pins to make it more 3D.

The greatest challenge in art this year for me was finding a third medium as I was completely out of ideas. I was looking around trying to find materials to do things with; in the end, I decided to paint coins/pennies as my last art project, because they’re easy to find and this allowed me to experiment. My greatest success would be my pin idea working; in general, I didn’t know what to expect, I just thought if it failed, I would just have to find a different medium.

I hope my viewers will see a number of different pins, and they would probably think that this person or artist doesn’t know what they’re seeing but I hope they would like it. I would like to tell my viewers that I hope they like it and enjoy my creations.
